Today we did it! We crossed 50 miles of open ocean from Miami to Bimini. I know people do it all the time, but it felt amazing to us. I am so proud of Dave. He is a great boat captain, and we had zero issues either crossing the ocean or once we got to Bimini and the marina.

We tried to start the day out early, but by the time we got on the water and headed toward Miami, it was about 930.

Fact learned today: it is a long distance between Ft Lauderdale and Miami, about 40 miles. This is also in some crazy choppy water!

We stopped off in Miami for a refuel. I didn’t add this to our tank count, but that is tank 2 on the boat. Today was 55 gallons of overpriced marina fuel.

Coming into Miami Harbor through the channel

We had to stop and watch 3 tugboats turn a container ship around, then pull it back to the loading dock. It was so intimidating to be in the shadow of that boat, but the orchestration between the tug boats was so neat to watch.

After the refuel, we were on our way. It took a little less than 2 hours. Dave spotted land a full 10 minutes before me. I guess I am not getting put in the eagle’s nest.

Once we were at the marina, it was time for customs. We were surprised to learn that most travel on the island is by golf cart. We rented one straight away. It was super fun scooting around the island on a golf cart.

One sad fact: there is a ton of hurricane damage. There are still sunken boats, piled up boats, and destroyed homes and businesses. It is hard to picture having your life destroyed and having no real means to repair it.

Golf carts everywhere

Customs took forever!!!! There were at least 10 captains, and the employees were definitely working on island time.

Customs and immigration all done, thank goodness!

Flying our United States and Bahamas flag after customs.

We are staying at the marina at Resort World. The hotel is very beautiful. The adult pool is amazing.

After an afternoon of swimming, we hit up the restaurant on the property. I was in hangry mode from not eating all day, but the food was delicious and worth the wait.

Delicious seafood chowder, Dave wanted to order more!

Giant steak for me, I was so hungry!

Seafood flatbread. This was super good!

Finishing off right with key lime cheesecake

After dinner, we took the golf cart back out and went exploring. It was a beautiful night on the water.

We decided to wrap it up and head for the boat around 9. I still had not worked out yet. I almost talked myself out of it, but nope, I stayed the course. I did my workout on our dock at 930pm. It took a lot of willpower to get that workout in, but I am glad I did it.

I am not sure what exactly is in store for tomorrow. I think we will go snorkeling and spend a lot of time on the beach, but it won’t matter too much because we will be somewhere beautiful no matter what.
