Les Amis is French for “The Friends”. It was initially started by a group of friends and since it opened in 1994, they have been a top restaurant and winning awards every year. We were able to book this Michelin three-star rated French restaurant for our anniversary. The menu is seasonal and changes as the Chef sees fit, and the menu is different just a few days after we ate there.

Ours course was the lower section

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the maître d’ and shown to our table. Right away we realized the three-star quality was not just the food. They pull your chair and adjust it and immediately start setting the table for the beginning. They provided a menu and explained some of the items on it. As they did that, they poured water, brought over the champagne cart, and had us select from four choices. We chose a glass of rose champagne for the starter.

Since we had looked ahead of time choosing our meal did not take long. We went with the Autumn tasting menu and the sommelier came over to provide the wine list. The course was primarily seafood, so we chose a white wine that was suggested after we gave the type of profile we liked. The wine was exactly what we described. It was not too sweet, it was dry, and had a bit of smoke. It paired well with everything we ate.

Our wine choice

The courses started and every single course was mind-blowing. We have eaten good food all over the world, but this was the next level. The flavor and freshness of the ingredients were superb. They brought each course and served it to each of us simultaneously. They then removed the cover and explained the dish. If there was a sauce, they poured it on the dish at the table side. The many loaves of bread were house made and could not get any better.

I posted the menu photo, but it may be a bit blurry due to the low light inside the restaurant. Here were our courses.

  • Small crostini with sardine (not on the menu, and forgot what was on it

  • Whipped potatoes with truffles (not on the menu)

  • River caught wild salmon tartare with caviar

  • A slow-roasted scallop from the coast of Erquy with savory seaweed sauce

  • Cep mushrooms cooked “a la bordelaise” & eggplant caviar with olive oil

  • Silky velouté made with seasonal Ardeche chestnuts and Pâté
  • Line-caught seabass roasted with a touch of thyme & pepper served with verjus sauce

  • Roasted Challans duck breast from Vendee accompanied with ginger caramel pear

  • Assortments of cheese from an amazing cheese trolley

  • Chocolate mousse

  • Contrast of intense blue mountain coffee in a sugar sphere with ice cream & coulis (Anniversary specialized)

  • Assorted treats (tarts, chocolates, macaroons) Served with a choice of coffee

The pictures show the food, and it may be hard to tell the portion sizes. Some of them were smaller but others were good-sized portions. Neither of us was hungry when we left, and Brandi even stopped towards the end. This left me with most of her duck dish and more desserts! The environment was beautiful but casual. The food, including the bread and pastries, was excellent. It was a wonderful meal and experience. All the staff members were extremely pleasant. The only way this dinner could have been better is sitting at a chef’s table we saw that overlooks the kitchen. Even the bill was classy on a silver tray accompanied by a Chopard pen. We each also received a tin of assorted jelly candies.

Neither Brandi nor I are professional writers, chefs, or food critics so we can only explain our experience here. Even that is limited as I am not a professional writer either. It was one of the best meals we have ever eaten, and we were so fortunate to have had this experience. Coming from Oklahoma, we do not have any Michelin-rated restaurants. We have eaten at some famous chefs’ restaurants and now have tried three Michelin-rated places here. We feel lucky there are so many here in Singapore to choose from and hope to get to as many as possible. If you are able to come to Singapore look up the list on Michelin and try at least one.

We hope you enjoy the story photos. Check out the link to the Les Amis website for more information.
