Fair warning, today was a day of gluttony, prepare yourself for a multitude of food picture.

Today was our first day to road trip it. We planned two places today, a country market at Schloss Hof and Bratislava in Slovakia.

We first made our way to Schloss Hof. This is the country estate/palace of the Hapbergs. There is a Christmas market in the front of the palace. This was a great market full of food vendors. There were also a lot of crafts, and even donkeys and horses to pet. We really loved this market. It was quaint and the food was great.

Small market but very good

The tables were built to look like animals.

Kaiseschmarren, it was cooked in a giant cast iron pan that crisps the edges. There are a few choices for sauces, this one is plum.

Langos, brushed in garlic butter

Our next stop was Bratislava in Slovakia. It is about an hour outside of Vienna. Once you leave Austria, it is a very different world. They speak Slovakian, which sounds similar to a dialect of Polish.

The people were so kind, it was very pretty, and the food was amazing. I don’t think we could say enough about the food. We ate and ate, and the next thing was better than the last. This was by far our favorite markets of the trip, and we are planning on going back on Friday.

It is also very cheap there. The stalls were very reasonable and we had a bottle of wine in a restaurant, when we needed to warm up, for only 25 euros.

I would never have guessed we would love it so much there, but I would highly recommend it as a stop on an East European vacation.

The left is roasted duck with cabbage, 2nd is potatoes and sausage with peppers and onions, last is a type of goulash.

Potatoes and sausage with sour cream and cheese! So good!

Affectionately known as circle bread. It tastes similar to a cinnamon roll.

Grog, Christmas fruit punch with vodka

Meat roasting on a spit

Cigánska the best sandwich ever!!!! Pork, mustard, peppers, and Slovakian cheese they warm in the pork grease before putting it on the bread.

There are no words for this potato pancake, zemiakové. It was creamy and crispy and hot and amazing.

I almost forgot one of my favorite parts of Bratislava was they love American Christmas music. Everywhere we went they were singing it or playing it all day.

Tomorrow we are planning a mountain excursion and a trip to Graz.
